This grant supports two sets of activities to codify and advance the work done under our Health Games Research (HGR) national program. The first is capstone activities that seek to summarize the lessons of the program; the second set seeks to build a focus on health at the University of California at Santa Barbara's Digital Games Research Center (DGRC). Deliverables will include producing reports and white papers; hosting convenings to summarize lessons learned about designed principles for health games; identifying priorities for future research and funding; articulating lessons for how academic game researchers can work with private industry and commercial game-design teams; refreshing and expanding the online database of games, research and resources created by the HGR national program office, and migrating the database to DGRC; completing the Body Game Builder resource and producing user guidelines for designers and developers; creating relationships with other game-design programs; and continuing to consult with public and private funders interested in games to improve health.
