Engaging multisector leaders in developing and implementing strategies and an operating plan to improve population health in New Jersey

Although the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation became a national philanthropy in 1972 and has operated on a national scale since then, it also has continued funding a limited number of local institutions and projects in the New Brunswick area and throughout New Jersey. It does so in part to honor the legacy of its founder, and in part to recognize the special responsibilities to the communities and the state in which it is located.Under this program contract, TSI Consulting Partners will plan and facilitate up to four advisory board meetings to inform recommendations on how to strengthen the public health system and improve population-health outcomes in New Jersey. These meetings will build on an 18-month exploration, including a stakeholder-interview process led by TSI, to understand the opportunities, needs and challenges associated with establishing and/or advancing the concept of a public health institute in the state. That concept is informed by the work of the National Network of Public Health Institutes and its member organizations in other states that are working in partnership with governmental public health, health care, and other partners and sectors to improve health. While the development or advancement of a new public health institute in New Jersey is not the stated sole deliverable, it represents one possible outcome of these meetings and this process. Deliverables will include recommendations on meeting participants and structure, development of meeting agendas and materials, meeting facilitation, and publication of minutes and recommendations following each meeting. TSI will reconvene the broader group of partners who initiated this work and key stakeholders to review the outcome of the advisory group's discussions. TSI will work closely on all aspects of the project with the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the advisory board, which includes representatives from the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services, New Jersey Public Health Associations' Collaborative Effort, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Public Health.
