Supporting the 2012 Terrance Keenan Institute for Emerging Leaders in Health Philanthropy
This supports the 2012 retreat of the Terrance Keenan Institute for Emerging Leaders in Health Philanthropy (Institute) on October 2 and 3, 2012, in Washington. The Institute is a leadership program that honors the life and legacy of Terrance Keenan, one of the first Robert Wood Johnson Foundation staff members and who became a leader at both the Foundation and in the field of health philanthropy. Institute fellows are nominated by their respective foundations' CEOs, then selected by a panel of senior leaders from member organizations of Grantmakers In Health (GIH). In 2010, GIH selected 17 fellows to participate in the Institute's primary activity, the two-day retreat in Washington. The retreat allows fellows to interact with each other and learn from current leaders of health foundations across the country about issues such as risk and leadership, long-term vision, and learning from failure. Additional Institute activities under this grant will include preconference and breakout sessions at the annual GIH meeting on March 13-15, 2013, and periodic group conference calls of the fellows. Other activities supported by this grant will include development of materials related to the leadership program and retreat. The primary deliverable for this project will be completion of the retreat.
