The purpose of this project is to conduct proof-of-concept work to help establish the Senior Independent Living Research Network Initiative (SNI). The vision for SNI is to create a living-research lab with as many as 10,000 independent-living seniors. After wiring their homes with sensors, researchers will be able to explore fundamental questions about the health, behavior, and activity of independent-living seniors, and to use the network to evaluate the efficacy of care models, services and products. Deliverables will include establishing and convening, over the phone and in person, the governance, policy and operational committees needed to manage SNI; identifying relevant technical requirements, standards and resources; identifying and qualifying necessary hardware and software; enrolling 30 to 50 volunteers; completing a real-world, end-to-end system test of SNI; and conducting fund-raising activities to support subsequent phases of the work.
