The Foundation's New Careers in Nursing program was designed to address the nursing shortage by funding scholarships in accelerated bachelor's and master's degrees in nursing, with preference given to schools that increase the number of students in these programs or increase enrollment and retention of disadvantaged or minority students.Activities for this fifth technical assistance and direction (TAD) grant for the program are designed to provide technical support to schools of nursing selected to award scholarships during the time period September 1, 2012, and August 30, 2013. These activities include technical support in the development and implementation of the Pre-Entry Immersion Program; review and revision of the Recruitment Mentoring Toolkits; collaboration with Educational Testing Services, in data collection and other activities associated with program evaluation and monitoring; web enhancements and social networking development and maintenance of the NCIN web site; convening a steering committee of repeat grantees to study and conduct research on best practices; launch of a NCIN Scholars Network; development, issue, and management of the sixth call for proposals; continued support of the FastTrac and NCINsider, newsletters; and coordination of all National Advisory Committee work related activities associated with NCIN.
