Producing policy-relevant evidence to advance the Future of Nursing initiative -- University of Colorado School of Public Health, 2012-2013

The Foundation's Interdisciplinary Nursing Quality Research Initiative was designed to provide funding for interdisciplinary studies that address critical gaps in what is known about nursing quality and for the synthesis, translation, and dissemination of results to key stakeholders.This funding will support a research manager for the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action (CFA) initiative. Richard C. Lindrooth, PhD, associate professor in the Department of Health Systems, Management and Policy in the Colorado School of Public Health, will produce a range of targeted, timely research products that directly address questions posed by the CFA's partners and stakeholders and that assess the impact of efforts to advance recommendations in the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report, the Future of Nursing: Leading Change, Advancing Health. This grant will support several activities, including the timely production of a series of products (e.g., charts, tables, reports and research briefs) that address specific questions posed by Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) leaders and CFA staff and its partners seeking information to guide strategic activities. Additionally, Lindrooth will participate in a series of group calls, contributing his own health and health care expertise, as well as his familiarity with published literature and knowledge of the expertise and work of others, to answer important questions. RWJF will also ask him to create timely, brief emails or memos in response to targeted questions posed by the CFA director or research director. Given his expertise, RWJF may also ask Lindrooth and his team to specifically address questions related to the effect on quality and expenditures of policies on health care reimbursement; general areas of health economics and data analysis; and other topics pertaining to the IOM report.
