This grant supports the Developmental Studies Center's (Center) production of a complete K-5 school curriculum that advances the widespread adoption of social and emotional learning by embedding it as an integral part of the education process in every school. The curriculum will enhance teacher quality and student achievement, and help shape students' overall development, physical and mental well being and social and emotional competence. Through a strategic collaboration with other funders and in conjunction with a Foundation program-related investment , the Center will: (1) conceptualize and draft the materials for the new curriculum; (2) pilot test the curriculum with teachers in classrooms and then revise it accordingly; and (3) field test the curriculum with entire faculties of six to eight diverse schools, with time to make final revisions. The deliverable will be a K-5 school curriculum in which social and emotional learning is fully integrated. Initially, the Center anticipates reaching 1.6 million children with this new curriculum.
