This grant supports a summit to: (1) address barriers to children's participation in sports in underserved communities, and (2) engage a diverse assembly of thought leaders in development of a national sports-activity plan to increase the number of opportunities and frequency of participation in sports activities for children, especially those with historically low participation rates. The underlying goal of the Sport for All, Play for Life project is to get and keep more children and adolescents active in sports, as a means of encouraging a lifetime of good health and fitness habits. The three- to four-day summit will convene 60 to 70 leaders from across the country from sports, media, government, business, academia, medicine, health care, philanthropy and other realms to address systemic breakdowns and develop the sport-activity model that best serves children and communities. The group will be central to the development of the national sports-activity plan. In addition to the summit and national plan, deliverables will include a final report on the Sport for All, Play for Life project.
