The Foundation's New Jersey Nursing Initiative was designed to address the New Jersey nurse faculty shortage by developing, implementing and evaluating a statewide model for recruitment and retention of nurse faculty. This program contract funds the work of Diane M. Billings, EdD, RN, FAAN, in the ongoing implementation and management of the Collaborative Learning Community (CLC) of the New Jersey Nursing Initiative (NJNI). The goal of CLC is to enhance the faculty acculturation of the 61 Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Jersey Nursing Scholars and better prepare them to be future N.J. nurse faculty. Scholars, project directors and faculty mentors participate in monthly CLC sessions, delivered primarily by webinar. Deliverables of the project will include: (1) engaging N.J. Nursing Scholars and schools in the CLC sessions; (2) developing a detailed schedule of the 2011-2012 CLC sessions, including engaging speakers and coordinating resource materials; (3) implementing at least 10 CLC sessions by webinar or in person; (4) consulting with the NJNI program office to assess grantee plans for how NJNI scholars will meet the desired educational competencies and outlining how CLC can best complement these efforts; (5) drafting reports at 6 and 12 months on the status of CLC implementation; (6) consulting with the NJNI program office on the agenda for the fourth NJNI annual meeting, to be held in fall 2012 at RWJF; (7) working with the NJNI evaluation team to measure the impact of CLC and NJNI; and (8) attending up to three in-person meetings at RWJF or at schools with faculty-preparation programs.
