Building the capacity of the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers to increase grantmakers' effectiveness, 2012-2013

This grant will continue support to the Council of New Jersey Grantmakers Inc. (CNJG), a leading resource for networking and information for New Jersey's philanthropic community, to strengthen its organizational capacity to serve and represent that community. The member-driven organization was created in 1990 on the principle that philanthropy is more effective when grantmakers have the opportunity for communication and information exchange with each other, and for continuing education. Specifically, the grant will support: (1) upgrading the current technology-infrastructure platform to better serve members; (2) meeting and travel costs for the PolicyWorks Forum to strengthen the public-policy capacity of CNJG and 19 other regional associations; (3) membership fees and travel to meetings of national organizations dedicated to philanthropy, including Independent Sector, Council on Foundations and Grantmakers for Effective Organizations; (4) a colloquium in spring 2012 to engage the state's nonprofit and philanthropic community in timely and pertinent conversations about the social sector's future; and (5) communications and marketing, including the launch of a social-media strategy to increase membership. This grant will also cover two years of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's CNJG membership dues.
