This one-time grant will help Independent Sector (IS) to reduce its building debt to set the organization on a healthy financial course for the future. As the leading national organization representing and serving the nonprofit and philanthropic communities, IS provides a strong advocacy voice and expert management resources for nonprofit organizations that are greatly needed in this challenging economic and policy environment. As the organization looks to advance its mission of service and advocacy, resource constraints threaten its future. Debt on the IS headquarters building in Washington, following its 2008 acquisition and the subsequent economic downturn, represents a financial hurdle that needs to be overcome. Robert Wood Johnson Foundation funding will go toward debt reduction as part of IS's overall plan for managing its long-term debt. This support will help ensure that IS continues to have an important impact in the critical years ahead. IS seeks sufficient funding from a variety of donors to reduce and restructure its debt.
