Technical assistance and direction for RWJF's Leadership for Healthy Communities program

The Foundation's program, Leadership for Healthy Communities: Advancing Policies to Support Healthy Eating and Active Living, was designed to work with elected and appointed officials to create and promote healthier communities.Consistent with their strategic plan, Leadership for Healthy Communities (LHC) will expand and solidify political will by implementing strategies that advance adoption, implementation, and strengthening of HEAL policies, primarily on the six policy targets identified by the Foundation; create an ongoing mechanism for educating and engaging policymakers outside of the funded networks; and provide technical assistance to grantees and through targeted grantmaking. In 2012, LHC will continue to provide tailored technical assistance to their grantees; disseminate key products such as reports and fact sheets; create and manage a policymaker speakers bureau; promote the Action Strategies Toolkit and curriculum to advance policy adoption, implementation and promotion; and host regional convenings. Additional activities include tracking of state and local policies and policy trends; identification of champion policymakers; development of region-focused talking points and fact sheets newsletters; e-info alerts. LHC will host webinars on the HEAL policies and collaborate with RWJF programs, particularly the researchers, to ensure that all activities are aligned with the Foundation's other programmatic investments and contribute to the achieving the Foundation's objective of reversing the childhood obesity epidemic by 2015. LHC will work closely with RWJF to ensure that all activities meet the Foundation's prohibitions on lobbying.
