Developing and beta testing the Positive Parenting Program in a social-network community in Los Angeles County
This project will develop and pilot test an Internet-based, social-network version of an evidence-based intervention, Positive Parenting Program (Triple P). Triple P has been extensively tested in various settings and in multiple countries, and has demonstrated effectiveness in improving parenting skills, child-behavior problems, family well being, and the parent-child relationship; all of which help to prevent child maltreatment. This project seeks to provide preliminary evidence as to whether Triple P is effective when administered through an Internet-based social network. The project has two phases: building and beta testing the Internet-based, social-network platform of Triple P with 40 families; and modifying the delivery platform, based on the beta test, and recruiting 60 more families to determine if the platform is effective in reaching vulnerable families most in need of this program. Deliverables will include a report summarizing findings of the entire project, publication of findings in a peer-review journal, and, if applicable, practitioner and policy-relevant briefs highlighting the utility of the social-network version of Triple P.
