This grant supports the development of a business plan for activities of Health Care Without Harm (HCWH) that help hospitals make changes that make them greener and save them money. Under a previous Robert Wood Johnson Foundation grant, HCWH developed a set of change packages and helped launch the Healthier Hospitals Initiative, a coalition of leading health care institutions that are championing sustainability practices in hospitals. Initial implementation of the change packages indicates that they have some up-front costs, but provide a return on investment in the near term. Working with a consultant (Jeffrey Hollender, former CEO of Seventh Generation), HCWH will develop a business plan that will enable it to sustain and expand its efforts to bring environmental sustainability to the hospital sector.
