The purpose of this initiative is to support collaboration between Consumers Union (publisher of Consumer Reports) and three alliances participating in the Foundation's Aligning Forces for Quality initiative to: (1) publish and disseminate comparative information about local physician performance through co-developed multimedia tools with branding attributions; and (2) create and test new revenue generating strategies to support the alliances' work in improving the quality of their local health care systems. This collaboration will leverage Consumer Reports' (CR) reputation, presentation, marketing and multimedia expertise to increase audience reach. Gathering and analyzing quality data and producing consumer-friendly reports are expensive for the alliances and CR marketing activities will leverage the alliances' expertise in these areas as potential revenue sources.Key project deliverables are: (1) publication of an insert in a CR magazine with comparative performance information for local physicians in each alliance region; (2) development of an alliance-specific marketing plan to leverage the insert; (3) development of multimedia products with contextual and provider information tailored for specific audiences, such as local employers; (4) a national CR publication on prevention that includes ratings of local providers' performance on prevention testing such as heart/vascular and cancer; (5) create and test sustainability strategies to support the collaboration with the participating alliances; and (6) a summary document describing the project's results and potential next steps.
