The purpose of this project is to support scholarships for individuals interested in attending the First National Congress on Healthcare Clinical Innovations, Quality Improvement and Cost Containment on October 26-28, 2011. The Aspen Institute will decide who will receive scholarships, based on financial need, among other factors, and will use the Foundation funds to give priority to consumer representatives and safety-net clinicians from Aligning Forces for Quality communities. The conference is the first organized specifically to help health care leaders develop their organizations' strategic missions as they navigate the transition to an environment that rewards value, rather than volume, in health care. The agenda features sessions on health information technology, payment reform, and other issues of interest to the Foundation. Because other funders are making scholarship funds available, a pool of potential scholarship applicants who can benefit from this project is already available. The project will be successful if at least 20 individuals from Aligning Forces communities are able to attend the conference.
