The Foundation's initiative, Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education, was designed to identify, evaluate and disseminate innovative strategies to increase the teaching capacity of nursing schools, as well as to promote the recruitment and retention of nurse faculty, with the long-term goal of educating more students. This grant provides continued support for the National Program Office (NPO) of the Evaluating Innovations in Nursing Education (EIN) program. This year's activities include: selecting a third round of grantees that will generate findings on faculty issues that are critical to achieving the recommendations outlined in the Institute of Medicine's report on the future of nursing; providing support and extensive evaluation related technical assistance for the first and second cycles of grantees; collect and analyze common measures across sites, including cost data; and convene one grantee meeting. Another key activity of the NPO is its continued website development and maintenance of both a public site as well as an extranet site for grantees. Finally, the NPO will coordinate its activities in close collaboration with the Foundation and other programs to enhance synergy. Finding from the first two rounds of EIN will be of particular use to Foundation initiatives working on nursing educational progression issues.
