This grant provides support for the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) to continue educating advocates and stakeholders about the 2010 Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (the Act) and working with them on its successful implementation. The Act, passed in December 2010, has several components involving creating and rolling out nutrition standards for school meals, increasing children's participation in school lunches and breakfasts, and improving the nutritional quality of child-care food and out-of-school-time meals. Activities will include: (1) coordinating the anti-hunger and nutrition communities to develop comments and campaigns responding to rule making by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA); (2) working with USDA to develop the best possible guidance and instructions for state and local implementation; and (3) producing Webinars, how-to guides and issue updates that inform advocates and stakeholders on the implementation process and key implementation issues. FRAC will also work with the Pew Charitable Trusts to coordinate with the Foundation-funded Kids' Safe and Healthful Foods Campaign to ensure consistent messaging to USDA and advocates. Deliverables will include the Webinars, guides and updates, along with results from workshops on the Act's implementation, which will be held during FRAC's annual conference in February 2012.
