Supporting the 2011 Opportunity Finance Network Conference

The goal of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Commission to Build a Healthier America is to explore the social and economic factors that affect health (e.g., poverty, education, housing) to lead to changes in national, state and local policies, and promote private-sector initiatives that will reduce health inequities among Americans.This grant provides support for the annual conference of the Opportunity Finance Network (the Network), an umbrella organization of community development financial institutions (CDFIs), November 11-14, in Minneapolis. This year, for the first time, the Network will offer a healthy communities track to educate and train CDFIs on financing opportunities to improve the health status of the communities they serve. The track will consist of seven 90-minute sessions on topics that will include creating a framework for projects to finance healthy communities, financing health care, and financing healthy foods. The Foundation will co-fund this track with the Kresge Foundation and the California Endowment. The deliverable will be a final written report on the results of the conference.
