The purpose of this project is to study local adaptation of the Safe Dates curriculum, an evidence-based practice to prevent teen-dating violence. The study will complement an ongoing evaluation of the Start Strong initiative, funded by the Foundation; Start Strong uses the Safe Dates curriculum. Using qualitative methods, the study will document the local context of schools that implement Safe Dates, the process whereby practitioners decide on adaptations, and practitioner characteristics associated with adaptation. The grantee will develop a typology of adaptations and will analyze them in relationship to local context and practitioner decisions and characteristics. Deliverables will include individual reports to Start Strong grantees, a one-page brief for funders, and articles both in practitioner newsletters and peer-reviewed research journals.
