This grant supports the Alliance for Health Reform's continuing effort to educate national policy-makers and journalists in a nonpartisan way about health and health care issues amid the heated political rhetoric about provisions of the Affordable Care Act and to share learning from local, and often privately funded, experiments to improve local health systems and population health. Deliverables will include: (1) four briefings for congressional staff members, personnel of executive branch agencies, officials of national health and business organizations, and the media; (2) two issue papers on the subjects of two Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded briefings; (3) two briefings in Washington for a media-only audience, six such briefings for reporters in cities around the nation, and one Web briefing for reporters located in cities not hosting a local briefing; (4) 12 one-on-one briefings for the national news media; (5) electronic updates of chapters in the Foundation-funded guide for reporters, Covering Health Issues; (6) online compilations of local news stories covering the impact on communities of national health policy decision-making; (7) six to eight short videos explaining how the Affordable Care Act affects different groups of Americans; and (8) expansion of audience reach by integrating social media and refining the user experience of the alliance's website. The alliance will not use Foundation funds for lobbying activities.
