This grant is one of five communications minigrants to educate patients or other stakeholders in Aligning Forces for Quality communities about a specific aspect of quality care, with the ultimate goal of devising models that other communities can replicate. With this grant, the Aligning Forces alliance in Oregon will target consumers--and, to a lesser extent, health plans, employers and providers--to raise awareness about a recently instituted clinical guideline that outlines low-cost, low-tech options for lower back pain, which in many cases can be a better alternative to expensive imaging and surgery. The alliance will create educational materials, disseminate them to patients and direct them toward a new website with more in-depth resources.
