Developing an open mHealth consortium
This project will develop an open mHealth consortium to promote shared learning, greater cohesion and rapid innovation in the mHealth field. The consortium, initially housed at the Tides Center, hopes to catalyze the transition of mHealth from a siloed to an open ecosystem by building an open architecture and the developer and learning communities around it. To promote adoption of the architecture, the project team will create an open source reference implementation of the architecture, made up of software modules and application programming interfaces (APIs) that programmers can incorporate directly into product development. Deliverables will include: (1) software-publication of interim architecture, data formats, and APIs; specification of key evaluation components; and a version 1.0 release of an open source reference implementation ; (2) a pilot demonstration of a prototype mHealth application related to post-traumatic stress disorder, built using the open mHealth reference implementation; (3) a statement of vision and goals, and an initial business and licensing model; (4) an effective communication strategy tailored to target audiences; (5) defined ways for interested parties to collaborate and/or use open mHealth tools and methods; and (6) at least one concrete plan for a second pilot application.
