This is the sixth award to support development of the infrastructure and program components of the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). The accreditation program will officially open to applicants in September 2011. Leaders in the field of public health established PHAB to design and administer a national accreditation program for local, state, territorial and tribal public health departments. Deliverables will include: (1) final revisions to the accreditation process, based on the results of a beta-test evaluation, in time for launch in September 2011; (2) development of a scoring system to determine the threshold for meeting standards of performance for public health departments; (3) purchase and implementation of an information system based on design requirements that PHAB developed over the past year; (4) development and finalization of the protocol for providing applicants with education, training and technical assistance; (5) design and implementation of a new website; (6) meetings of six new think tanks on key issues, with reports and recommendations; (7) development of a robust business plan for PHAB's long-term sustainability; and ( 8) development of a strategic communications plan targeted at specific audiences.
