Although the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation became a national philanthropy in 1972 and has operated on a national scale since then, it also has continued funding a limited number of local institutions and projects in the New Brunswick area and throughout New Jersey. It does so in part to honor the legacy of its founder, and in part to recognize the special responsibilities to the communities and the state in which it is located. This grant will continue support by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) for the Salvation Army Community Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The Center, which is dedicated to addressing serious community needs and concerns in Middlesex County, will provide: (1) children with educational and enriching after-school and summer programs; (2) adults with opportunities for job training and self-improvement; and (3) people released from local prisons, and seeking support, with assistance in resettling in the community.
