Supporting the 2011 American Medical Informatics Association conference to set the next agenda for public health informatics

This project will offset public health professionals' registration, lodging and travel costs associated with attending the 2011 conference of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) on public health informatics. A new agenda for public health informatics is the key deliverable for the 2011 conference. Through facilitated breakout sessions, participants will develop recommendations in five areas: ethics; technical frameworks; professional training and workforce development; research and evaluation; and sustainability. The Science Program Committee's vice chairs will synthesize the results of the breakout sessions and themes into a coherent set of recommendations. Through presentations and publication, the committee will share recommendations with public health and informatics audiences. The agenda will also be vetted and shared at the 2011 Public Health Informatics Network meeting and 2011 AMIA Annual Symposium. In addition, AMIA will review and coordinate the informatics agenda with the public health systems and services research agenda that the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is convening.
