Supporting Grantmakers for Effective Organizations to accelerate progress in the field of philanthropy, 2011-2012
This grant will enable Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) to maintain and expand learnings, research, convenings and publication activities to strengthen foundations' relationships with grantees and foster greater adoption of strategies and practices that maximize the success of nonprofit organizations. Activities will include: (1) promoting conversations and learning opportunities that can surface approaches that advance nonprofits' effectiveness, such as piloting communities of innovation and intensifying data-collection efforts to identify promising ideas and trends; (2) promoting change in philanthropic practice through stronger storytelling and peer-learning opportunities--GEO will enhance members' interactive access to information and peers online, expand its offering of actionable publications and host high-quality conferences and remote learning sessions--and (3) growing and strengthening GEO's membership base. The organization will retain evaluation as a core priority, fielding a national survey in 2011 to gather stakeholder input on performance and key priorities, and applying internal-evaluation data to program and budgeting activities.
