Nancy Elizabeth Dunlap, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., is a 2011-2012 Health Policy Fellow. Dr. Dunlap will participate fully in national health policy formation during the 12-16 month residential experience in the nation's capital. She will begin the fellowship in Washington, D.C., in September 2011, for an intense three and one-half month orientation arranged by the Institute of Medicine (IOM). Following orientation, she will take on a full-time work assignment for up to one year. This assignment is usually in a congressional office or committee where she would be expected to develop legislative proposals, arrange hearings, meet with constituents and other stakeholders, and engage in a wide variety of high level forums and events. Continued leadership development activities may be supported after the residential period with remaining funds for up to 24 additional months.Deliverables will include the preparation of a formal presentation to the IOM on a policy-oriented topic in which she has been engaged. Fellows are expected to use the experiences, leadership skills, and relationships gained through the D.C. experience to improve health, health care and health policy at the national, state and/or local levels.
