Developing a research agenda to evaluate and validate mHealth technologies
This grant supports an evidence meeting on mobile Health (mHealth) to bring together individuals with expertise in developing new ways of analyzing data, designing experiments and producing evidence that can accelerate the adoption of effective mHealth applications. MHealth has the potential to simultaneously reduce the cost of health care and improve our health by encouraging healthy behaviors, reducing susceptibility to diseases, cutting down on visits to health care providers, and intervening in real time in the mobile environment. However, current methods of demonstrating evidence needed to support efficacy and safety in mHealth applications are poorly aligned to the pace and methods of application development. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, McKesson Foundation, National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Science Foundation will sponsor the meeting at NIH on July 21, 2011. The grantee will summarize the outcome of the meeting in a white paper and as part of a session devoted to mHealth evidence at the annual mHealth Summit, December 5-7, 2011, in Washington.
