Improving Michigan's Quality Improvement Guidebook as a resource for national public health performance

This project will expand Michigan's Quality Improvement Guidebook, a manual that practitioners use to apply quality improvement (QI) tools and concepts to local public health. Using straightforward language and visuals, the second edition will include: (1) case studies and storyboards that reflect the QI experiences of geographic locations and population sizes across the country, and (2) new or expanded applications of QI tools in local public health settings, such as the link between QI and accreditation. The Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI) will revise the original guidebook and prioritize new content based on an evaluation and input from the National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. MPHI will draw content examples from the third Multistate Learning Collaborative (MLC), the Public Health Accreditation Board's beta tests, and evaluations of QI projects. MPHI will also conduct three to four virtual focus groups with public health practitioners across the country to identify ways to increase the guidebook's utility, such as developing online modules, an instructor's guide, or examples specific to state health departments. MPHI will co-brand the guidebook with MLC and NNPHI, and MPHI and NNPHI will disseminate the final product via their websites and through their national partner organizations.
