The Foundation's program, Communities Creating Healthy Environments: Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Safe Places to Play in Communities of Color (ICS), was designed to build state and national momentum to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity through strategic investment in those communities most affected. ICS will focus on establishing new school wellness and food policies as part of a Healthy Empowerment Zone strategy. The comprehensive initiative will take on vendor policy, access to recreation, meal times and ensuring adequate service staff, curriculum changes and community food access. This grant is made as a transfer of a 2009 grant made to Community Partners where ICS was a project. ICS has grown from a project of Community Partners to a strong, independent institution with nearly a million dollar budget on its own.
