The Foundation's initiative, Medicaid Leadership Institute, was designed to develop a leadership program for Medicaid directors designed to cultivate the skills necessary to resolve health care challenges facing states and the nation. The goal of the Medicaid Leadership Institute (MLI) is to provide a unique opportunity for current Medicaid directors to participate in a year-long leadership development program designed to cultivate the skills they need to transform their Medicaid programs into national models for high quality, cost effective care and coverage expansion. In the third year, the MLI will complete its work with a second class of six Medicaid directors, select a new class of up to eight participants, and further develop and formalize the alumni network. The Center for Health Care Strategies (CHCS) will work with the Foundation's Coverage team to ensure that there is coordination between this program and the targeted state strategy. This grant for technical assistance and direction will support the development and delivery of the curriculum, leadership training, individualized technical assistance, consultant contracts, travel and accommodations for the participants and staff. In addition, CHCS will collaborate with the National Association of Medicaid Directors to develop a more comprehensive boot camp that will expand on the traditional one meeting formation to additional meetings and virtual sessions throughout the year.
