This grant supports the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools in exploring strategies to increase the number, quality and sustainability of school-connected mental health interventions and in identifying opportunities to institutionalize school-connected mental health services and programs in school districts, state education agencies and federal agencies. Poor mental health functioning poses a barrier to effective learning, and schools can play a role in providing mental health promotion, prevention and treatment for their students. Deliverables will include: (1) a collaboration with mental health and education partners; (2) improvements in the understanding of the relationship between mental health and academic success; (3) engagement with experts in health care financing; (4) analysis of federal policies and regulations and their translation to regional approaches that have been shown to be effective; and (5) identifying key aspects for purposes of replication.
