This grant supports Kids Kicking Cancer (KKC) in developing tools of instruction, video messages, bibliographies, one-on-one video teaching, and observation to more quickly spread techniques of martial-arts therapy to relieve pain for pediatric oncology/hematology patients. Surveys have indicated that KKC's techniques for pain intervention have been effective and that the psychological impact of empowering children to positively affect outcome allows them to frame themselves as victors, not victims. KKC has created program centers in and around Detroit, New York and Los Angeles. The goal of KKC's TOSS program (Teach/Observe/Supervise/Support) is to open remote programs in 10 months in the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., areas.
