The Foundation's Scholars in Health Policy Research Program was designed to provide postdoctoral training targeted to the most promising graduates of programs in the three disciplines of economics, political science, and sociology to advance their involvement in health policy research. The Program provides these Scholars with a unique and challenging postdoctoral fellowship in both academic and applied policy research environments at one of three Program training sites: the University of California, Berkeley, in collaboration with the University of California, San Francisco (Berkeley/UCSF); Harvard University; and the University of Michigan. This grant supports the National Program Office (NPO) operations at the level required for successful recruitment of Scholars over the coming academic year, 2010-2011. Major activities include: refining and managing the application review process; planning and conducting the annual meeting; monitoring and assisting the sites; providing technical assistance to Scholars; maintaining the Working Paper Series; updating the Program directory and Web site; expanding Web-based communications to alumni ( e.g. the Facebook group page); organizing networking and media training opportunities for alumni; updating and maintaining the alumni database; conducting analyses of alumni advancement and professional activities, including their influence on health policy thinking; and exploring strategies for enabling alumni to have greater impact on health policy formulation. The alumni database allows the tracking of progress made by alumni in their health policy research careers. Key partners are the three training sites, the National Advisory Committee, and Program alumni.
