Supporting the Liberty Science Center in inspiring students, teachers and families to academic excellence

Although the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation became a national philanthropy in 1972 and has operated on a national scale since then, it also has continued funding a limited number of local institutions and projects in the New Brunswick area and throughout New Jersey. It does so in part to honor the legacy of its founder, and in part to recognize the special responsibilities to the communities and the state in which it is located.This grant will help the Liberty Science Center raise $1 million to close a current funding gap for immediate general operations and to plan for the expansion of educational programs next year. Science center programs engage teachers and their students in developing skills to interpret scientific information, deepen student understanding of science in real-life situations, and encourage interest in science careers. Next year, to maintain its standing as the region's premier science resource and teaching institution, the Center will design educational programs and exhibitions to help teachers prepare for the new state-mandated standards for science instruction. The Center will also conduct a comprehensive evaluation of its services. Finally, Liberty Science Center's board of directors and staff will refine and implement an aggressive fund-raising campaign to ensure the sustainability of the Center.
