Health games can spur positive behavior change and assist in the management and treatment of chronic diseases, pain and other health challenges. As one of the first foundations to support the field of health games, RWJF has long believed in its potential to engage and motivate people in powerful ways. To encourage the development of these games, Pioneer supported six ?game jams? in 2010 that challenged teams of game developers to create health game prototypes within 24 to 72 hours. Games developed as part of the ?jams? were submitted to the U.S. Department of Agriculture?s Healthy Apps Challenge, a contest to develop applications and games to improve child nutrition.
