The Foundation's Public Health Law Field-Building initiative was designed to support public health practitioners, their counsel and policy-makers in using law to promote, protect and improve health through technical assistance, training, legal analyses, products, and translation and dissemination delivered through a national network of public health law centers and key stakeholder groups. To expedite the launch of a national coordinating center for public health law (PHL), an integral part of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's work to build the field, this planning grant will allow the center's project team to begin planning and organizing its efforts. Deliverables and key activities will include: (1) assessment of the PHL field, including a review of available resources and technical assistance needs of the PHL network; (2) strategic planning for a PHL database; (3) the selection, focus, coordination and sustainability of up to five regional PHL centers and the overall network; (4) planning for a meeting with leadership of the regional centers and other partners; and (5) infrastructure support to help launch the national center, including logistics planning and hiring.
