Convening a Collaborative Food Safety Forum for diverse stakeholders to create solutions and policy options for enhancing food safety
The Foundation's initiative, Supporting Advocacy to Reduce Tobacco Use and Direct Tobacco-Related State Revenue to Health Priorities, was designed to support state and local advocacy efforts and educate policy-makers and other key audiences in up to 15 states about the need for tobacco control and other public health measures.Under this project, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts will jointly support a Collaborative Food Safety Forum, a multistakeholder convening focused on implementation of the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009. This historic legislation, currently pending before Congress, will modernize the food-safety system and empower the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with new regulatory authority. The forum will identify key policy and implementation issues through a series of interviews and in-person meetings and will produce a set of policy options and recommendations to guide the FDA in this undertaking and ensure that America's food supply is safe and healthy. RESOLVE, a neutral third-party mediator, will manage this process, provide logistical support, and facilitate a dialogue and consensus-building process among a diverse group of food-safety constituencies from federal, state and local governments; industry; and advocacy.
