The Foundation's initiative, Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships, was designed to fund a national effort to develop and implement effective strategies to prevent relationship violence among youth. As the National Program Office (NPO) for this initiative, the Family Violence Prevention Fund will conduct individual and initiative level technical assistance, research, policy strategy development and coordination of learning activities to achieve effective program implementation over this first full year of the initiative. In addition, the NPO will provide coordination to assist national communication and evaluation efforts. Youth leadership, program impact and sustainable change guide the framework of NPO technical assistance in support of the 11 communities participating in the initiative. Key efforts over the next year include: implementing programs to prevent teen dating violence in and out of schools; developing a national strategy for parent/caregiver engagement informed by an expert work group; developing at least two communities of practice to offer ongoing learning and program improvement across sites; ramping up policy change efforts at local and state levels; and implementing social marketing strategies.
