This project will convene public health thought leaders to work collaboratively through the issues, challenges and opportunities that health reform presents and to develop recommendations on implementation of new legislation. Based on current drafts of reform legislation, the public health community is positioned to receive unprecedented funding and bold mandates in support of programs and activities that help prevent illness and encourage healthy lifestyles in diverse community settings. If legislation is passed, responsible stewardship of these funds and the implementation of new prevention and public health activities will provide an opportunity to advance the nation's public health system and to significantly improve the health of all Americans. This project's primary deliverable will be a summary report to guide practitioners, policy-makers and other decision-makers in carrying out provisions of the new law.
