The Foundation's program, Healthy Kids, Healthy Communities: Supporting Community Action to Prevent Childhood Obesity, was designed to catalyze and support policy and environmental change projects to promote children's physical activity and healthy eating, especially in lower-income and racial/ethnic communities at greatest risk. The purpose of this project is to achieve measurable improvement in nutrition, physical activity, and healthy living, supported by the environment. Deliverables include: ensuring school policy to integrate safe routes to school infrastructure and non-infrastructure components in the project area; implementing policy strategies to assure connectivity between project area neighborhoods, streets and trails, green spaces, and parks; supporting effective land and water use policy for existing and future gardens; and ensuring access to affordable, convenient, healthy foods through policies that impact the sales of fresh produce within the project area.
