The Foundation's program, Communities Creating Healthy Environments: Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Safe Places to Play in Communities of Color, was designed to build state and national momentum to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity through strategic investment in those communities most affected.The purpose of this project is to implement new local budget priorities so that recreation and play space are adequately funded and accessible in every community. Deliverables include: public forums to build resident support for increased public investment in recreation, economic analysis of local budgets and research on alternative priorities, resident trainings and skills workshops to increase understanding of recreation and food issues, and passing policies that increase public resources for recreation in underserved communities.
