The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health & Society Scholars Program was designed to build the field of population health by training scholars to investigate the connections among biological, behavioral, environmental, economic, and social determinants of health; and develop, evaluate, and disseminate knowledge and interventions based upon integration of these determinants.This project provides technical assistance and direction for the Health & Society Scholars Program. The funds will support: (1) managing the application review and selection process for the scholars; (2) monitoring program development at the six sites; (3) planning and conducting the program's annual meeting; (4) refining an integrated database to analyze applicants over the lifetime of the program; (5) marketing and communications efforts to recruit candidates from a diversity of disciplines, backgrounds and demographics; (6) implementing a newly designed Web site that enhances exchange of valued information and facilitates networked collaboration; (7) developing an intra-program alumni network and tracking system; (8) promoting interdisciplinary career paths in academia; (9) increasing cross-site and cross-program collaboration; (10) applying new approaches to leadership and career development of scholars; (11) enhancing the visibility, awareness and prestige of the program; and (12) increasing visibility, awareness and understanding of the contribution of the field of population health including increasing funding opportunities and increasing policy impact of research findings.
