Campaigning for new district policies in Denver Public Schools to increase access to healthy foods and physical activity for low-income youth of color

The Foundation's program, Communities Creating Healthy Environments: Improving Access to Healthy Foods and Safe Places to Play in Communities of Color, was designed to build state and national momentum to reverse the epidemic of childhood obesity through strategic investment in those communities most affected.The purpose of this project is to get new policies passed in Denver Public Schools to increase access to healthy foods and physical activity for low-income youth of color. Deliverables include: public forums and community planning to develop and advocate for policy initiatives; community surveys on the youth food and recreation environment; new partnerships between health organizations, school partners and community residents; and passing policies that increase access to healthy food and recreation in local school environments.
