The Foundation's initiative, Lead States in Public Health Quality Improvement (LSI), was designed to create a peer network of innovator states with experience in designing and implementing a process for systematic assessment of local public health agency capacity and performance. The Illinois Public Health Institute, as the lead agency and project coordinator for Illinois' participation in the LSI 3 will advance quality improvement in the state's public health system. Mini-collaboratives, comprised of local health departments, will operate as learning communities focused on organizing and implementing specific framework and Plan-Do-Study-Act rapid improvement cycles. Collaborative members will measure their progress and achieve measurable improvements in their target areas. As part of the LSI 3, the Illinois Public Health Institute will also be preparing for national public health accreditation. Evaluation studies and lessons learned from the LSI will play a critical role in the development and roll out of the national voluntary accreditation program. This grant is being transferred from United Way of Illinois-Illinois Public Health Institute to the Illinois Public Health Institute.
