The purpose of this project is to support the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in establishing the ad hoc Committee on Public Health to produce five policy-relevant reports on public health issues in 2½ years. Policy-makers and public health leaders are looking for authoritative, objective, research-based guidance to help make decisions on funding, program priorities, policies and infrastructure. The Foundation will select the topics, and the reports will provide practical recommendations for policies and actions to strengthen the public health system and improve population health. Topics may include the use of law to improve population health; public health services and systems research; accreditation and quality improvement strategies; and issues related to building public health leadership. Besides the reports, deliverables will include derivative products based on the reports and strategies for disseminating the findings.
