This grant funds the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) in supporting 19 local health departments selected for the beta test of the accreditation process of the national Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Selected local, tribal, state and territorial health departments will test the standards and assessment and review processes for national accreditation before the PHAB's official launch of the program in 2011. NACCHO will work with PHAB and the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) to recruit beta test departments and provide technical assistance to health departments in evaluating the accreditation standards and processes. In addition, NACCHO will administer grants and provide technical assistance to the beta-test local health departments in improving the quality of activities that do not meet standards. NACCHO will also work with ASTHO to provide technical assistance to tribal health departments and the local entities of centralized state health departments.
