Planning for the health impact assessment coordinating center, technical assistance network and demonstration projects

To increase the use of health impact assessments (HIAs) as a policy- and decision-making tool that improves population health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation will establish a national HIA coordinating center, fund a series of policy-relevant demonstration sites, develop a network for training and technical assistance and fund the development of national HIA standards. Pew Charitable Trusts, which will be the institutional home of the coordinating center, will help the Foundation plan implementation of this initiative. Aaron Wernham, the intended coordinating center director, will serve as a consultant. Deliverables will include: (1) a detailed project plan for the coordinating center, for the network for training and technical assistance, and for the recruitment, funding and monitoring of local, state and national demonstration projects; (2) the program's call for proposals; (3) a draft memorandum of understanding that will detail program branding and management; and (4) a series of meetings with potential HIA advisers, Foundation staff and communications consultants.
