Advancing the interests of low- and moderate-income families in the national health reform debate by strengthening the faith voice
This project seeks to broaden public support for comprehensive health care coverage for all by preparing faith-based organizations to bring strong, well informed religious voices to the national debate on health care reform. An organized faith community could play a key role in ensuring that the policy interests of low- and moderate-income families are adequately represented in the reform debate. More specifically, this project will: (1) develop common messaging and strategy on health care reform between the PICO National Network and religious denominations representing at least one-third of religious adherents in the United States; (2) promote collaboration on national health care reform among leading faith-based organizations and between faith-based organizations and secular organizations in at least eight states; and (3) develop at least 250 health care leaders who are prepared to speak publicly with policymakers and the media about the impact of the health care reform on their families and communities.
